Love Wins | Milo's Story

May 17, 2015:

"Andrew was diagnosed with Leukemia today. I am shocked and devastated. Letting you know because I love you and I know you will pray for us".

As I read these word on my phone, my body went numb. Brie is one of my dearest friends, and to hear that her world was thrown into complete chaos like this was heartbreaking. Unbeknownst to me, Andrew and Brie had recently been planning to start a family. After his diagnosis, however, they weren't sure if they would ever have children.

"Our experience with cancer drove home the importance of family, as well as how precious life is. We felt even more strongly about having kids once Andrew went into remission". Fortunately, due to wise planning before Andrew's treatment, they were able to conceive last year through in vitro fertilization.

Milo Emmanuel was born last month, and it was my honor to help them celebrate with a newborn portrait session in their home.

When I arrived that morning, Andrew opened the door with a huge smile on his face. The energy inside their home was so calm and loving. As I watched them interact with Milo, I was so impressed with how natural parenting came to both of them. It's just like the quote from Iain S. Thomas: "And then my soul saw you and it kind of went 'Oh there you are. I've been looking for you'". They all fit perfectly together.

Milo’s pictures captured for us our gratefulness for our little family and for the unexpected chance that we have had to experience so much joy in the wake of so much pain. We hope someday that Milo will understand from these photos just how much we treasure him!

It was my incredible honor to photograph this beautiful new family. Andrew and Brie, thank you for welcoming me into your home to celebrate with you. Congratulations on your beautiful son.
